I love how the book of 1 Chronicles focuses more on the spiritual aspect of David’s life rather than the sin of David’s life; not just information but insight. Whoever the author, if it was the priest at that time, Ezra, or someone else, they had a desire to share what was below the surface. Not just the facts, but maybe God’s perspective on those facts.

The first nine chapters are so important as knowing David’s genealogy is to know Jesus‘s as Jesus is the son of David. It is to confidently set our hearts on the absolute certain fact that he is the Messiah. The one prophesied, promised to the world.

Overall, 1 Chronicles focuses on God’s plan rather than rules and traditions. David wasn’t his father’s first born, he wasn’t even Solomon’s heir, but he had a heart for God and GOD chose him take Saul’s place as king.

We all have a past and have made mistakes, but those do not have define our relationship with God. David overcame as he was quick to repent. His heart was soft toward the Lord, and that is why he was called a man after God’s own heart.

Another instance of where we see more of a spiritual perspective is how we do get much detail of the material workers that David had gathered for building the temple but it seems more of the focus is on how God himself would ensure the project was completed. God had given David the plan but God would see it through.

““Every part of this plan,” David told Solomon, “was given to me in writing from the hand of the Lord.”” 1 Chronicles‬ ‭28‬:‭19‬ ‭

“Then David continued, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. He will see to it that all the work related to the Temple of the Lord is finished correctly. The various divisions of priests and Levites will serve in the Temple of God. Others with skills of every kind will volunteer, and the officials and the entire nation are at your command.”” 1 Chronicles‬ ‭28‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭

David tried to let Solomon, and all of Israel, in on his secret to success not only as king but in life with the Lord.

““So now, with God as our witness, and in the sight of all Israel—the Lord’s assembly—I give you this charge. Be careful to obey all the commands of the Lord your God, so that you may continue to possess this good land and leave it to your children as a permanent inheritance. “And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the Lord sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. So take this seriously. The Lord has chosen you to build a Temple as his sanctuary. Be strong, and do the work.”" ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭28‬:‭8‬-‭10‬

My bible has this note on 29:30, “1 Chronicles vividly illustrates the importance of maintaining a relationship with God. The genealogies in 1 Chronicles 1-9 emphasize the importance of a spiritual heritage. The second part of the book details the life of David. Few men or women in the Bible developed such an intimate relationship with God as David did. His relationship with God drew him closer to God and strengthened his desire to build God’s temple. David’s life shows us the importance of staying close to God by studying and obeying his Word and communicating with him daily.”
