Book Four of Psalms turns our attention to who God is, and what He has done for the nation of Israel in the past.
The beginnings of this set of psalms is so declarative of who God is. Or attention is turned from the inevitable truth of the existence of suffering, to the mighty power that God extends to us.
The psalms are both a shout of praise and a call to give all glory to God!
Moses, David, and the anonymous authors of Psalms 90 - 106 are sitting back thinking of all God has brought them through, and are desiring live more closely in the shadow of His presence. “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalms 91:1
We can also shout praises to God in our thought lives and out loud all day.
Pray continually. Praise continually. This will keep negative thought patterns in check.
“Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery! Replace the evil years with good. Let us, your servants, see you work again; let our children see your glory. And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!”Psalms 90:15-17
There is a tone to Book Four that is the heart of the Bible. Redemption. It is the power of God to redeem hardships. Lord, Let us see your glory in our lives today!
“Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.”Psalms 90:14
This scripture is so good! It can be a daily prayer - satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love. A love that we cannot comprehend. A love that searches the soul and directs us to Jesus. Not to condemn, but to correct and urge us forward as we walk out our journey with Him. We so need this. Every morning. Every moment. When our praises become part of who we are, He shines through us.
“The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.””Psalms 91:14-16
If God’s power delivered His people once, He will surely do it again. This promise surpasses time, and is extended to us today.
